The problem
Lisa from Utah contacted ACE RAID Recovery for help with her Drobo DR04D-U. The device had been stuck in an endless self-recovery cycle for over a week, blocking access to her collection of photos and videos – numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
The challenge
Our diagnostic examination found severe damage to the Drobo BeyondRAID metadata. BeyondRAID is a proprietary layout – it can’t be read by standard tools, and a damaged metadata layer means the array structure itself must be rebuilt. This is one of the hardest NAS recovery cases there is.
Our approach
- With the client’s approval, our team built a custom solution for the case.
- Engineers spent months rebuilding the metadata and reconstructing the BeyondRAID array structure.
- Next, they recovered the Apple HFS+ file system embedded within the Drobo RAID.
- Throughout the process, the team kept Lisa updated on progress – because data loss of irreplaceable photos is emotional, and communication matters.
The result
97% of the client’s data was extracted from the array and transferred onto a new G-Drive RAID array, which was returned to the client. Security and confidentiality protocols protected her sensitive personal data throughout.
“This case is an excellent example of the importance of seeking professional help… by working with a team of experts, clients can ensure their data is in the hands of skilled professionals who can maximize the chances of successful recovery.” – Fedir Bandurin, Director of R&D
